Purpose: Effects of transforming growth factor-β2 on age-related osteopenia by
modulating the mesenchymal stem cell differentiation


Aging is associated with bone loss resulting from decreased connection of bone trabeculae, leading to decreased bone resistance and increased risk of fracture(osteoporosis).
The mechanisms of the increased bone resorption occurring with aging are now better understood.
In contrast, the causes of reduction of bone formation with age remain unclear.
Rodniguez et al. in 2000, demonstrated that marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) isolated from aged osteoporotic female produce 60-65％ less transforming growth factor (TGF)-β and 50％ less type I collagen, and expressed high adipogenic capacity.
However, Justesen et al. claimed that the MSC differentiation potential does not seem to vary with age and osteoporosis.
Most recently in 2006, Fehrer reported that MSC derived from various mouse strains behave equivalently in vitro with respect to growth rate.

Thus, a better knowledge and identification of key signals for lineage-specific differentiation of bone marrow MSCs will help us to develop therapeutic strategies for age-related osteopenia by promoting the differentiation of these cells towards the osteoblast lineage and inhibiting excessive bone marrow adipogenesis.
TGF-β is secreated and stored in bone matrix, which is decreased with age.
In addition, TGF-β has been shown to stimulate osteoblastic differentiation but inhibit PPAR-γ ex<x>pression and differentiation of late stage adipocyte.

明明就有記住懷特跟我講的~~~~而不要緊張!!

超嚴肅的所長對我的研究方向看來是不感興趣
因為他最後只問了我一個問題，和實驗不相關的問題
只是因為我提到一個學者文獻，學者名"Rodriguez"
他問我知不知道他是誰，我很努力的回想..(但是還是不知道)
瞬間的氣氛降到冰點.........
整個台下安靜到不行 囧
我緊張到說錯話
只因為我情急之下說出 "我跟他並不熟耶"

結果台下的大家突然破口大笑
囧......所長說"Rodriguez"是美國大聯盟的一個什麼選手
事後，我還問同學知不知道...結果只有對棒球有興趣的幾個男生知道所長在講誰
原來學者
"Rodriguez" 不只做研究...還有分身跑去打棒球了
